Postdocs
We are currently looking for a computational neuroscientist. Requirements include a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or degrees in engineering, computer science, or related areas. Please contact Dr. Kragel with any questions.
Undergraduate Students
If you are interested in becoming an undergraduate research assistant in ECCO Lab, please fill out the interest form, and we will reach out to you after reviewing your responses
Graduate Students
Are you accepting graduate students this year? We are currently considering graduate students for Fall 2025 enrollment.
Which students are a good fit for your lab? Students interested in studying emotion using approaches from affective science and computational cognitive neuroscience are a good fit for the lab. A passion for developing new methods to understand brain function is a plus.
What makes an applicant competitive? Strong applicants typically have prior research experience in neuroscience or cognitive science and formal quantitative training. For students with degrees in psychology or neuroscience, this often requires coursework or training outside of their degree. In terms of computing languages, the lab uses MATLAB, Python, and R, whatever gets the job done most effectively. Depth of programming and data analysis experience is viewed more favorably compared to expertise in any specific language.
What is expected of graduate students in your lab? Students will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects and collaborations, in addition to developing their own line of research. This involves developing a research question, designing experiments to test it, acquiring data, analyzing it, and preparing results for dissemination. This should be both a challenging and rewarding process. All students are expected to present their research at conferences, write manuscripts, and submit applications to fund their research. I aim to provide flexible mentorship, with regular weekly meetings in the first two years of graduate school and ad hoc meetings as needed thereafter.
